Digital nomads and the trend in long stays

There was a time when the Marbella rental market was easily divided into two parts – short-term holiday lets and long-term rentals. Occasionally they overlapped, but for the most part these were two very distinctive markets, one measured in weeks and the other in months. More recently, the phenomenon of long stays has begun to blur the distinctions a little, yet rather than being an annoyance it represents a specialised demand that creates and broadens the scope of opportunities for homeowner and tenant alike.

We all know about the social and especially work-related changes brought about by the Covid pandemic, and more specifically the lockdowns that accompanied it. The enforced closure of shops, businesses and office workspaces for several periods over a two-year period forced us to embrace new technologies and means of communication as never before, and as a result we began to have meetings, produce work and send it ever more conveniently from outside the conventional office space.

This usually included the living room or study of your home, but later also extended to restaurants, cafés, resorts and a variety of other venues. When the fog lifted and offices reopened, millions of workers around the world had more or less found them to be somewhat redundant. They had been able to keep businesses and corporations running from these other locations, and while there has been at least a partial return to the office, remote working and digital nomads are here to stay.

A new kind of rental segment

Esenzia is a rental company with a very clear focus – we specialise in short-term luxury holiday rentals and do not provide long-term letting services, as we consider that to be a very distinct and also specialised segment of the market. However, while most of our offering and work is focused upon Marbella apartments, townhouses and villas rented out by the week, with accompanying holiday rental services and concierge options, there is one deviation from the standard that we do cater to – and that is the growing demand for longer stays.

The long-stay client tends to want a so-called ‘staycation’ or ‘workcation’ that can last from a month to almost a year. The legal and practical conditions are virtually identical to those that apply to standard holiday lets, but are adapted to the longer stay in the form of a slightly modified home and service offering (if needed), as well as somewhat discounted rates in recognition of the longer assured stay. In many ways, long stay rentals represent a merger of the sector’s classic holiday and long-term rentals, but they fall under the jurisdiction and infrastructure of the former.

For this reason, Esenzia is perfectly qualified and equipped to service this segment, which consists as much of tech professionals as it does of young families keen to enjoy quality of life in a beautiful sunny location such as Marbella while continuing life and work as normal – only remotely.

We provide a rental service precision-tailored to the needs of such clients, and it offers an ideal solution to them and homeowners alike, so contact us if you would like more about long stay rentals in Marbella.
